Is It Right For Me?
The Sober Surf Program is designed for men and women who practice a daily program of recovery and wish a vacation focused on mind, body and spiritual wellness in an inviting and supportive recovery community. Participants share the exquisite lodgings at Casa de Alces, engage in meditation, yoga and surf instruction, daily meals and group activities. Furthermore, each participant has the opportunity to share their story of growth and recovery in our nightly group meetings facilitated by Jason Roderick LICSW. Sober Surf is not a rehabilitation or recovery program, but a holistic program of wellness, designed specifically for people in recovery. All prospective participants will be asked to communicate with Jason, the Director of Sober Surf, by phone or Skype prior to enrollment. This will also be an opportunity for you to get answers to any questions you may have regarding the program.
Do I need to be an experienced surfer?
The beach break at Playa Guiones is unique in that it offers to both total beginners and experienced surfers an amazing surf experience. If you have never stepped foot on a surfboard, the certified instructors at Safari Surf will get you up and riding waves in no time. Many a beginner has commented on how comfortable and safe they felt working with the instructors at Safari Surf. If you are an experienced surfer, the outside breaks at Guiones will offer some of the best rides in all of Costa Rica. The instructors at Safari Surf School will assess each participant’s ability on the first day of lessons and instruct each accordingly, including providing a surfboard daily that best suits each individual’s needs.
